when the president does it,
that means it's not illegal. Richard M. Nixon I was
pretty young when Richard M. Nixon was president. (I'm still pretty, but
I'm not so young.) I barely remember the
Watergate hearings on television. When I recently read
this quote in a newspaper column, I could not quite believe it. But
apparently, it is a real quote. It was spoken by
Nixon in 1977, three years after he resigned the presidency. At the time
of his resignation he was facing impeachment. Nixon's words were captured on video during an
interview with David Frost. Though I did
not see the interview, I have to wonder if George W. Bush saw it. In any
case, he seems to have taken the sentiment to heart. Dan R. Frazier
